Strategic Planning & Communications Campaigns
I use a mix of different communications tactics to promote or communicate about a project, event, or initiative, in order to maximize the campaign's impact. These tactics are carefully chosen after defining effort's the goals, objectives, and messages to generate the best results within the budget. This method also makes repurposing content throughout an organization's different channels easy.
My projects have run the gambit from strategic plans and internal communications campaigns, pilot projects studying families and nature, education and interpretive plans for Open Space properties, to advertising campaigns for events, to public engagement efforts for planning projects and management changes.
Many of the pieces here are also represented in their respective categories throughout the site.

Warner College Visual Brand Language
I worked with Colorado State University Creative Services and a team from Warner College to follow CSU's process for developing a visual identity for the College. This design framework is applied to all College media, and modular and flexible enough in nature to both provide tools for in-house media production, as well as direction to designers we engage for professional services. The design includes unit signatures, colors, fonts, and icon, pattern, and photography styles. As a part of the process, branded templates for posters and presentations were also developed. It was a real pleasure to work with CSU's Creative Service's team on the process and I'm proud of the work we did together.
In addition to the College level Visual Brand Language, I worked with both the Conservation Leadership through Learning Graduate Program and Natural Resources Ecology Laboratory to develop their individual visual brand languages.

Help Preserve Open Spaces Sales Tax Education
2014 was a big year for Larimer County's Open Lands program because the program's sales tax that funding was headed back to the voters for extension.
We ran a campaign to educate Larimer County citizens about the sales tax in order to create greater knowledge of how the already popular program is funded. While we did not intend to influence voting decisions, we did feel it important to convey the facts about the proposed extension to as many citizens as we could. The video and infographic served to educate people about the existing tax while the rack card piece covers the changes in the proposed extension. I was primarily responsible for developing the concepts for these pieces, and authored each of them. I developed the concept on the infographic with our in-house graphic designer. I worked on the video with Karina Mullen of Conversketch and Kevin Kirchner of Fort Collins Cable 14. Campaign Components:

Plug in to Nature
Plug in to Nature is a comprehensive analysis to determine effective ways to combat Nature Deficit Disorder in Larimer County. Funded by Great Outdoors Colorado as an pilot initiative stemming from their 2010 Strategic Plan, this project engaged community members to determine the level of connections families feel for nature on conserved lands and parks throughout Larimer County.
I managed the study, helped create and execute the public engagement strategy, and wrote the executive summary. I also took on implementation of the results, and was able to make a number of changes and additions to Larimer County's environmental education program to address community needs. Some of these changes included our participation in National Get Outdoors Day, our increase in outdoor skills programming and programs for toddlers, and our use and promotion of www.getoutdoorscolorado.com. In addition to the various awards the project won it was successful enough to be replicated in Mesa County and the City of Pueblo. These projects are underway and I have advised the project manager in Mesa County. I hope to be able to aggregate their data with Larimer County's in order to analyze any differences between communities. The study has been the inspiration for my master's thesis in the Environmental Communications program in the Department of Human Dimensions at Colorado State University. I'm developing a communications strategy to get parents to get their kids outdoors more often, the centerpiece of which is a "nature play pledge" that parents would take through a mobile app. The app would then push suggestions and notifications about events to the parents who have taken the pledge, and encourage them to get their kids outdoors more often. Festival and Exposition Booths
During my time at the Larimer County Department of Natural Resources I was heavily involved in creating displays and branded event materials. The designs to the right shows an example of what I developed. These simple changes resulted in more invitations invitations to additional events, and lots of positive comments from visitors. It was essential to make it simple to represent the department regardless of the event with this modular, easy to use system.

County Open Lands Program Master Plan
The 2001 Open Lands Master Plan for the Department of Natural Resources Open Lands Program was updated in 2013/2014. I led the public engagement for the planning effort in coordination with consultants from Logan Simpson Design who assisted in the planning process. We had just completed a regional study of citizen preferences in "Our Lands Our Future" so the name of the game with the Master Plan was to verify those preferences and adjust the direction for the program if need be.
