Interpretive Media
I developed interpretive plans for open spaces and park areas for Larimer County Natural Resources. These plans were essentially strategic communications plans for the areas and included both personal (guided hikes, educational programs) and non-personal elements (signs, brochures, flyers, websites) in order to help visitors connect to the resources in the area. Each area was branded through the use of sign footers and tag lines that represented the overall interpretive theme for the site.
Red Mountain Open Space
I worked with Marcella Wells of Wells Resources Incorporated to develop the interpretive plan for Red Mountain Open Space. We co-managed the project to produce the document that would guide the personal and non-personal interpretive elements at the site. The tagline for the site, "Life on the edge of the mountains and plains" and banner for use on signs and other elements were developed through the planning effort.
The most dramatic interpretive element at the site is the windbreak for the outdoor classroom at the trailhead which depicts the history of the area in core-ten steel. Sue Sell of Periwinkle designs did the graphic design and layout work for the signs and the windbreak. Scott Larsen and Dr. Eric Erslev served as content experts for the geology content, and Dr. Jason LaBelle was the content expert for our cultural signs. I wrote the interpretive plan and the interpretive signs and developed the concept for the timeline feature.

River Bluffs Open Space
I wrote and implemented an interpretive plan for River Bluffs Open Space. The design work on some of the signs was performed by Brook Callahan and then other signs were developed by Interpretive Graphics. I researched and wrote the copy for the signs and developed their concepts.
Devil's Backbone Open Space
Devil's Backbone Open Space is getting it's first interpretive plan currently, however a lot of interpretation has taken place at the site already. I've worked with a number of different designers on interpretive signs there including Interpretive Graphics, Periwinkle Designs, Jason Silkey and Sue Burke. In each instance I developed the concepts for the signs and performed the research and writing. In the case of the Blue Sky Trailhead Kiosk signs I did the design work as well.
